The National Taxpayers Association (NTA) had an inception meeting with the Office of the Governor in Nandi County to discuss collaboration under the Hatua Zaidi – Deepening Citizen Power for Accountable Governance initiative.

The meeting was attended by H.E. the Governor of Nandi County, the Deputy Governor, the County Executive Committee (CEC) Members for Finance and Lands, the Chair of Finance and Budget from the County Assembly, the Chair of the Ward Development Committee, the Chief ICT Officer, the Deputy County Secretary, and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Taxpayers Association (NTA), Mr. Patrick Nyangweso. This high-level representation underscored a shared commitment to promoting transparency, inclusivity, and citizen-driven development.
The Governor’s office expressed satisfaction with the ongoing partnership, noting its positive impact in empowering citizens through the popular version of the Nandi County Equitable Development Act, 2023. They emphasized that the partnership has enhanced transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement in governance processes.

During the deliberations, Mr. Patrick Nyangweso, NTA CEO, extended an invitation to the Governor to serve as the Guest Speaker at the upcoming Citizen-Driven Taxpayers Conference, scheduled for 25th and 26th February 2026. This gesture reaffirmed NTA’s commitment to working closely with county leadership to advance citizen empowerment and accountability at both county and national levels.
Looking ahead, the Governor’s office identified priority areas for collaboration with NTA, particularly on climate-related initiatives, linking to the ongoing Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program. The County further stressed the importance of inclusivity, highlighting women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) as key stakeholders in development.
To deepen citizen participation, the Governor’s office underscored the need to decentralize information, ensuring it is not just produced but also widely consumed. They called for enhanced public participation, better access to information, and stronger use of ICT tools to make governance processes more inclusive. In line with this, the popular version of the Equitable Development Act, 2023, will be translated into Swahili to expand accessibility.
The county government acknowledged that Nandi’s culture of transparency in development has already yielded positive outcomes and committed to sustaining this momentum through collaboration with NTA.
