Today, the National Taxpayers Association (NTA) had a strategic engagement meeting with the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) to present proposed areas of collaboration aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance.

The NTA delegation was led by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Patrick Nyangweso, and accompanied by Director Beatrice Abuya, a member of the board, who represented the Chair.
During the meeting, NTA outlined its strategic collaboration areas, including Citizen Accountability Audits (CAA), County Audit Compliance, Information Sharing, Training and Certification, and Advocacy and Awareness. NTA emphasized the importance of building citizen demand for accountability, simplifying audit findings, and strengthening public trust in oversight processes.
The OAG welcomed the proposals and affirmed its commitment to collaborate with NTA, particularly stressing the value of citizen engagement and information sharing. Both institutions agreed to:
• Establish a joint working committee and co-develop a work plan to operationalize the partnership.
• Simplify and repackage audit reports into popular versions to increase public accessibility and understanding.
• Work with registered CSOs through NTA to expand citizen participation in audit processes.
• Support the rollout of the County Accountability Network, an initiative previously formulated by NTA’s CEO to strengthen oversight at the county level.
Additionally, OAG confirmed its participation in the upcoming Citizen-Driven Taxpayers Conference scheduled for 25th–26th February 2026, which will serve as a platform to showcase the partnership and jointly engage citizens on tax, accountability, and governance issues.
This collaboration marks an important step towards deepening Citizen Accountability Audit and Engagement, bridging the gap between formal audits and grassroots realities, and ensuring that audit findings are not only produced but also understood, acted upon, and embedded into Kenya’s governance culture.
