The National Taxpayers Association (NTA), represented by our Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Patrick Nyangweso, participated today in the RESET Alcohol Project Dissemination Workshop held at the Weston Hotel, Nairobi. The workshop brought together key stakeholders such as the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA), the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the International Institute for Legislative Affairs (IILA), the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), and the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).

Organized to share emerging evidence and promote informed policy dialogue, the workshop focused on findings from recent reviews and preliminary simulations related to alcohol regulation and taxation. It also provided a platform for multi-stakeholder engagement on advancing reforms that align public health goals with national fiscal objectives.

During the deliberations, NTA’s CEO emphasized the urgent need to strengthen enforcement mechanisms and to holistically address the three key pillars – Affordability, Availability, and Acceptability (the 3As) – to create an effective and sustainable alcohol regulatory environment. He noted that without addressing these foundational issues, any taxation or policy reform efforts may fail to achieve their intended impact.

As an advocate for accountable governance and people-centred fiscal policies, NTA remains committed to engaging in such evidence-driven dialogues to support reforms that promote health, equity, and sustainable development.
