Achievements
Main Accomplishments
- The NTA through public forums was able to link citizens with government service providers, local leaders and managers of devolved funds. This provided a platform for free interaction and discussions, raising queries and citizens getting answers to specific questions.
- Government departments, devolved fund managers and leaders have recognized the critical role the NTA social audits have played in improving efficiency and effectiveness of government services and management of devolved funds. Politicians have begun appreciating the findings of Citizen Report Cards as a way of improving management of devolved funds. This has resulted to partnerships aimed at improving transparency and accountability.
- The NTA provided information to citizens through publication of IEC materials, public forums, radio dramas and talk shows. This ensured increased public access to information and awareness on their right to demand accountability from government service providers and devolved fund managers. Citizens are now able to make informed decisions on governance aspects that directly affect them.
Why is this Important
- Citizens through NTA programmes have been empowered to demand transparency, accountability and delivery of essential government services. Citizens are active participants and influence development decisions through the link with government officials and devolved fund managers that enable them to closely monitor the use of their funds.

- Ordinary Kenyan citizens have benefited from increased awareness and access to information and had the opportunity to demand accountability from public officers and devolved

- NTA Constituency Monitoring Committee members stand at a spot where a borehole project is supposed to be. CDF records indicate money was spent but the audit revealed the work was never done. This is a loss of taxpayers’ funds. The government is expected to act on the findings of the NTA social audits.
- Government benefits from the information provided to follow up and act on key performance indicators to improve service delivery by its own officials.
- Political leaders are made aware of the pressing needs of their constituents and the urgent need to address them.
- Public officers receive information on areas that need intervention as linked to their performance contracts.
Human Aspect.
The long term improvement of public service delivery and management of public resources by an accountable, citizen-responsive government delivering quality services to all and improve the quality of lives of citizens by promoting good governance through citizen empowerment, enhancing public service delivery and partnership building.
What NTA expects to accomplish during the next year?
- To build on facilitating a citizen based demand for accountability from service providers and managers of devolved funds both at the local and the national level
- Further increase NTA partnerships with service providers so as to improve service delivery and management of public resources
